When it comes to location the popular thing most photographers do is, look for a location where the scenery is nice and there is not much that has to be done except positioning and shooting their subject. There is nothing wrong with that however, personally, I can shoot in front of an office building and still produce a great shot. If I happen to shoot a popular location most photographers regularly shoot at, I try to frame the image in a way that when locals/photographers from this area look at my images it is not so obvious where the location is.
